While the principles of photography have not changed, there are some considerations which accompany the use of digital cameras. Selection of a file type, white balance, and image resolution are among the basics of digital photography. The course will also cover the fundamentals of exposure, the effects of shutter speed and aperture, composition, flash, and lenses.

Outdoor Photography

Have an interest in Nature Photography? Then this class is just the thing for you. We'll examine the special needs of the Outdoor Photographer beyond the basic of aperture and shutter speed. We'll teach you how to decide what the best camera settings are for different situations. You'll also learn creative use of white balance and other digital camera features, creative composition and flash use for outdoors as well as some tips on selecting the best lenses and other accessories. We'll also spend some time on a few Photoshop techniques to help improve on what was shot in camera.

Adobe Lightroom 3.0

Learn to use this powerful new tool to get the most out of your digital photography. We'll examine all five Lightroom modules and learn to properly import and keyword images for later retrieval. Along the way you'll learn about the amazing editing and retouching tools Lightroom offers. Also learn the differences between Lightroom and Photoshop and why you may or may not need both. Some basic computer skills are needed but prior Photoshop experience is not necessary.

Photoshop Elements for Beginners

So, you have finally traded in your film for pixels and are wondering how to get the most out of your digital images. This class, the first in a series of Photoshop classes, will walk you through the work area and help you to become more familiar with the tools used for basic photo corrections.

Photo A Day

This course is a photojournalism-based class, which will challenge you to obtain quality documentary style photography. The class will teach you how to walk the streets of your hometown and capture its personality. Whether you are photographing people or places, the idea is to photograph it as you see it in the moment. However, the true challenge is to get ‘A-Photo-A-Day’.

Digital Black and White

With a resurgence of interest in black and white photography, we have added a new course this term. Even better, it is a digital black and white class, which will apply the old film concepts to the new digital age. During the course of this class, students will improve upon their metering skills and learn the zone-system as it applies to the digital camera. More importantly, however, they will be challenged to make dramatic black and white images they can ultimately hang on their wall as art.

Intermediate Photo: Painting with Light
With Mahmood Fazal
Photography literally means writing with light. During this class, students will learn the behavior of light and how it impacts their photography. The instructor will discuss lighting controls such as aperture, shutter speed and ISO. Students will learn to see light as a subject, find light, and mix ambient and created lights such as flashes, flashlights and other lighting apparatuses to add a unique creative outlet to their picture making. It's a fun class where students are only as limited as their imagination.
